Abstract
Unlike their predecessors in the past, who were in direct opposition to Islam and the Qur'an, modern orientalists have ignored the direct confrontation with Islam and the Qur'an and are trying to cast doubt on its definite teachings by misinterpreting the verses of the Qur'an. to face The same tactic has been used in many cases in the Leiden Qur'an encyclopedia. One of the articles in which this method is prominent is an article by David Marshall titled "Zakariya" in which she tries to impose her ideas about Hazrat Zakaria on the Quran. The views that he has raised about Hazrat Zakaria have merits in terms of brevity and comprehensiveness of the contents, but in other ways such as not referring to the Holy Book and Islamic traditions; Failure to use interpretive and historical sources; Lack of precision in quoting the verses and not paying attention to the presuppositions of the discussion have shortcomings. The detailed criticism of Marshall's views is as follows: the lack of evidence for the prophethood of Zakaria (pbuh), due to the clarity of the verses of the Qur'an, his prophethood is rejected; The correct translation of "Zariyeh Tayiba" is not "beautiful child" and there has never been such an opinion among commentators, historians and lexicographers. Zakaria's doubt in divine revelation is rejected due to opposition to Islamic presuppositions such as infallibility and miracles, opposition to the opinions of the majority of commentators in different historical periods, and the absurdity of Marshall's words in past periods.
